We were instructed to draw a final sketch in our sketchbook. The image on the left is the photo I have chosen for this project, and the image on the right is a picture of my sketch. I think the final sketch looks pretty good. I had some issues with the proportions and shading. I wasn't really good at getting the exact color of the pencils without making them too yellow, orange or black. Although I am not completely satisfied with the colors or proportions, I think it looks fine enough.

Clear Bowl with FruitBox of PencilsI have chosen the box of pencils and the clear bowl with fruit as my two ideas for this project. I am planning on using the photos as the compositional sketches. For the fruit, I changed the position of the bowl a couple times to get better photos. For the box, I took the first three photos with all of the pencils inside, while the last two photos had some pencils sticking out. I had some trouble finding good camera angels with bowl of fruit, but I didn't have too much trouble taking photos of the box of pencils.
I am planning on using the following ideas in deciding which one I will use on the project:
1. Clear bowl full of fruit. 2. Ceiling light in my room. 3. Vase with flowers. 4. Electric Pencil Sharpener, front view. 5. View of inside of microwave through door. 6. Box of No.2 pencils, some sticking out. 7. Clear bag of grapes, bird's eye view. 8. Plastic bag with groceries. 9. Glasses with arms folded. 10. Cookies in clear wrapper, the wrapper would be open. 11. Bag of bread. 12. Cheese slices in clear wrapper. 13. Prismacolor pencil package, some sticking out. 14. Clear packaging of paper, the stack sticking out a little. 15. Jar of mayonnaise, not completely full. I had an easy time with coming up with some of them, but struggled later on. I think this project will be good for practicing how to show when something is behind or inside of a clear object. My preferred ideas are #1, #4, #5, #9, and #11. For this assignment, we were required to draw a piece of candy with an opaque wrapper, and a piece of candy with a clear wrapper. I used a Twix and a Swedish Fish. I had a trouble making the color of the Twix wrapper. The actual wrapper had more of a gold color, which I found difficult to show with the Prismacolor pencils I got. I also had trouble showing the reflections on the Swedish Fish wrapper using the Prismacolor pastels. I didn't have too much trouble coloring the candy inside of it. I did not fill up the entire sheet of paper, leaving some room on the right. I think I could've done better on this drawing, by coloring more accurately, and by filling up the whole sheet. For this assignment, we had to take pictures of two eggs with a defined light source and shadows. We then had to choose one picture to use a reference. We had to use both warm and cool colors to draw the eggs. I used the bottom middle picture as the reference photo. I used cool colors on the eggs, and I used warm colors for the background, along with some black on the shadows and white on the eggs and a white patch in the background. I think it looks decent. However, I think I could improve on blending the colors, and making the shine marks stand out more. I also should have used a pencil to draw the eggs, shadows, and background line, rather than use a pastel stick.
We started drawing with colored pencils. For this assignment, we had to draw three spheres and three cones using multiple Prismacolor pencils. Although I still struggled a bit, I had an easier time showing values and transitions between them than previous drawings. I that by using various different colors, I can show transitions between values easier.
Brainstorming IdeasAll SketchesIn Progress PhotosFinal Drawing1. I made the view by taking a picture near the back of the car so that the wheel took up a good portion of the photo, but angling the camera so that the back door of the car and a part of my house could still be seen.
2. It is important to learn and draw perspective because it allows for interesting and creative photos and drawings. A certain perspective can make a work of art more interesting to look at. 3. The perspective exercises helped show a center of interest for this drawing. It emphasized the wheel, but still allowed of parts of the car and a bit of my house to visible. The pencil exercises helped me out with shading and value. 4. I think the main technique I used was trying to get many different values to be visible in the picture. I think the values are defined fairly well, but I think I could've made certain parts of the wheel darker. 5. I think I was able to achieve a foreground, and a bit of a background, but not really a middle ground. The wheel takes up most of the foreground, while the house takes up the background. I think the door of the car could be considered the middle ground, but I don't think the picture is drawn clearly enough for the middle ground to be easily described. 6. I had trouble when drawing perspective. I think the main issue was that it took me a long time to draw and shade in the perspective drawings we have done so far. Using a ruler on them made them look better, but it still took me a while to complete them. However, I think perspective is good for defining foregrounds and backgrounds, as well as giving a picture a 3D appearance. I think the perspective is at least good enough to show that the wheel is in the foreground, while the house is in the background. 7. I think I was well prepared for this project for the most part. I think the values and reflections look just fine. However, I wish I was better at making smoother value transitions. Whenever I try to show a value transition, it does not look smooth. I used a No. 2 pencil for most of this project, and I only found out I was allowed to use the other pencils when I was already fairly close to completion. I think that using the other value pencils from start to finish could've helped to improve the values. The top three pictures are my work in progress photos, and the bottom picture is the reference photo. We were asked to upload three work in progress photos of our project. I think I am doing just fine on this project, but I still have a bit of difficulty making the proportions accurate.
